Micro-tan is a small tannery located in central Illinois. We began tanning capes for other taxidermists in 1993. We have operated a Taxidermy Studio here since 1988.
Micro-tan was born basically out of a need to create more work for us at a time when we had more capable employees than we had business to keep them working steady. The quality of our tanned products was exceptional, easy to work with, plenty of stretch and a clean finished product. Add to that the fact that you send them to us frozen, and we do the turning and salting. We had worked with skins from other tanneries and knew that the liqua-tanned capes where much easier to work with. So offering our liqua-tan services seemed the obvious route to take.
Our intent and mission is quite simple:
If you have been in this business very long, you already know that it is difficult for one person to produce enough work to make a respectable profit. It's what we call the Superman theory. One person, constantly running in circles trying desperatly to be everything, but not giving anything the attention it deserves, including family. So instead of you running your business, it's running you. That is where we discovered that we could make a difference.
Other tanneries require you to turn and salt your capes prior to shipping. At Micro-tan you just bag them after skinning and we take care of the turning and salting, as well as the tanning. This gives us total control of the tanning process, and gives you consistent results every time. With this process you have eliminated a good portion of the labor and you know exactly what it has cost you.
Let us handle all the dirty work and you can concentrate on mounting quality pieces for your customers. It's just one way for you to delegate some of the responsibility while still maintaining total control, and we are already trained!
