Frozen Skins

Frozen skins make up the largest percentage of our business. What Taxidermist's like you have realized is that the turning, salting and tanning process utilizes as much as half the time that you dedicate to mounting a deer or anything else for that matter.

With that said, the rest is pretty easy. After you skin the cape or LS skin off of the animal, you simply need to bag it, place a tag of some sort on the bag with your customers name or ID# then box and ship them. The reason for the customer's # or name is that we will return your capes individually bagged with a waterproof tag on the outside indicating whatever information you have provided us with. This keeps you from sorting through a bunch of capes trying to figure out what's what.

Once we receive your capes we will turn, salt, shave and tan. When you get them back all of the detail shaving will have been completed. Because we turn everything completely prior to salting, we can shave up to the eyelids, the nosepad and nostrils, and the entire lipline, leaving you very little prep work prior to mounting. This does not apply to salted skins.
For a complete run down of how to handle the skins once you receive them, check out our Tips Sheet.

    Shipping tips for Frozen Skins
  • Prior to bagging, check your cape for proper length. Excessive length adds up to more shipping charges for you. There is no reason to send us, and then have us send you, what will eventually end up in your garbage can.
  • In situations when the temperature rises, you can still avoid next and 2nd day services by shipping your skins in a hard cooler. We will return your skins in the same cooler upon completion.
  • There is a PACKING LIST here on our web site that you can fill out and mail us when you ship. Also, you can print a copy for your records, and include one in your shipment.
  • Assuming you have removed any excessive length and large chunks of meat from your capes, you can estimate shipping will be approximately $2.00 per cape when shipping quantities.
  • NEVER use the Postal service to ship frozen skins. UPS and FedEx are consistent and highly recommended. If you're shipping during the cold season (Nov.-Apr.) there is seldom reason for anything other than UPS regular ground. 2nd day or next day services can be cost prohibitive.
